Recruitment drive
Hello everyone,
been a while since the last update but August is generally our ‘holiday’ month. It was a shame we were not involved in Hull Folk Festival this year but we’re hoping to be involved in the future, and there’s a possibility we might hold a workshop at Fruit at some point. We’ve also just joined Twitter, so do spread the word and follow us @GGGDancers … This week we’re practising for Lincoln BIG Festival on Saturday, it’s our AGM on Sep 12, and in the following four weeks (Sep 19 & 26, Oct 3 & 10), we’ll be tailoring our sessions to beginners, so please come along! -

Visit from Beverley Garland
It was nice to meet up with the ladies from Beverley Garland recently; they came down to our practice hall in Cottingham, where we taught them Whitby Shindig, the dance with bobbins originally created by Val Marsden.
The Beverley team did really well in picking up the figures so quickly, and it’s fair to say that both teams were put through their paces in one of the most energetic sessions for some time.
It was also a good opportunity to socialise, and we look forward to dancing Whitby Shindig together as a double header when the teams meet on the Wold Tour 2012, which is provisionally set to take place on Saturday, July 14.

Burton Agnes Hall Michaelmas fair
We were delighted to have been invited to this event at the East Yorkshire stately home on October 29. It was a Saturday afternoon and the lovely hall and grounds were buzzing with people. Fortunately the rain held off, and it was a crisp, clear autumn day – perfect for dancing, really, as we soon warmed ourselves up.
The lane up to the house was lined with all manner of interesting stalls, as well as a craft tent. It made a fantastic start to many people’s Christmas shopping, with the fare on offer including beers from the Wold Top brewery, Wolds jam and preserves, luxury sloe gins and sherries, wood crafts, clothing and much, much more.
It was great to have an appreciative audience, too – the place got busier as the afternoon wore on – and we were pleased to receive some positive comments. We really hope to be asked back next year, and many thanks go to Burton Agnes Hall.

The first Wold Tour, September 2011
On September 10, 2011, five folk dance teams got on a big bus and went on a tour of the Wolds. Green Ginger Garland, Green Ginger Morris, Beverley Garland, Grimsby Morris and Tatterfoals (from Scunthorpe) all got together for this inaugural event, and a great time was had by all.
The first stop was North Newbald at just before 10am, where a few villagers were up early enough to see the spectacle. Read the rest of this entry »

Website redesign
Hi all, some of the more eagle-eyed among you may have noticed this website has undergone an overhaul. The new setup makes it much easier to update and link to other sites such as Facebook. More news and photos will continue to be added, so watch this space – and please ‘like’ us on Facebook! 🙂

May Day celebrations, Brough Primary School
In May, the Green Ginger Garland ladies helped teach a group of Year Four pupils, plus visiting students from India and pupils from St Anne’s special school in nearby Welton, how to dance around a maypole.
Other workshops on the day included traditional English folk songs, pottery-making and drama. The Indian students, from Bangalore, were in East Yorkshire as part of the UK India Education and Research Initiative (UKIERI), which started in April 2006 with the aim of enhancing educational links between India and the UK.
